How to Apply for Student Loan (NELFUND)
Nasir Ayitogo, the Media and Public Relations Coordinator at the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), shared the news through a press release in Abuja yesterday. Following the announcement, NELFUND has provided clear instructions for students to apply for loans ahead of the official opening of the application portal today.
The student loan aims to assist with covering expenses for maintenance and tuition at accredited higher education and vocational training institutions in Nigeria.
To apply for a loan for students, similar to the NELFUND, follow these steps:
- 1. Go to nelf.gov.ng.
- 2. Click on “Apply Now.”
- 3. Select “Get Started.”
- 4. Fill out the form on the webpage by clicking “Yes, I am a Nigerian.”
- 5. Double-check your academic details. You’ll need to choose your school from the drop-down menu and provide your matriculation number to ensure your school is uploading your information.
- 6. Click on “Verify with JAMB” and enter your JAMB information in the designated window.
- (If you don’t have a registered NIN and haven’t been registered by JAMB, there will be an input field where you can enter your NIN to validate it.)
- 7. Create an account using your email and password. Make sure to confirm your password in the provided fields, then select “Create Account.”
- 8. Open the email sent to you and click on the verification link to confirm your email. This completes the account setup process.

- Step 1: Sign in to your account using your email and passcode. Simply click on the “LOGIN” button.
- Step 2: Once you’re logged in, click on the “Proceed to Contact Details” button.
- Step 3: It’s time to update your contact details. Make sure to provide the latest information about your phone number, complete address, state of residence, and local government area of your residence. After that, click on “Proceed to Educational Details.”.
- Step 4: Now, let’s update your education details. Select your highest institution and enter your matriculation number. Once you’re done, click on “Proceed to Account Details.”.
- Step 5: The final step is to check your BVN (bank verification number). Choose your bank’s name and enter your account number. Don’t forget to click on “Save Changes” to complete your profile.
- Congratulations! You’ve successfully completed your profile.
LOAN APPLICATION
- First step. Select the “Request for student loan” button located at the top right corner of the page for loans or home after you have logged in to the app.
- 2. When you are looking for an ongoing loan, simply click the check box, then select “continue.” If all you require is an institution’s fee Click the “Continue” option.
- Step 3: Upload supporting documents. The admissions letter is mandatory; however, the student ID and institution invoices are not required.
- Select the checkbox next to the declaration and policy and hit “continue.”
- 4. Go through the loan overview, then select the checkboxes to both the terms and conditions and GSI mandate, and then click “Submit Application.” Step 4: Read the loan summary and click “Submit Application.”
- 5. Hit the “loans” button to view the status of your application.
